The Dandy Bag works by suspending a nonwoven geotextile filter bag below the grate or inside the curb inlet opening, creating a collection chamber where water slows down and sediment drops out of suspension before the filtered water passes through the bag walls and into the drain.

As sediment-laden stormwater flows through the grate and into the Dandy Sack below, the flow slows down, suspended solids settle out and are captured inside the bag, and filtered water continues into the drain system without carrying sediment with it.

The under-grate design makes the Dandy Sack a practical solution for high-traffic areas where a surface-mounted inlet protection device would be damaged, displaced, or create a tripping hazard for pedestrians and vehicles.
