Placed between an existing pavement surface and a new asphalt overlay, the Mirafi MPV is a nonwoven paving fabric that waterproofs the pavement system and retards the reflective cracking that shortens the life of asphalt overlays on deteriorating road surfaces. Rather than simply covering existing distress, the MPV fabric works within the pavement structure to extend the performance of the overlay by addressing two of the most common causes of premature failure.

When saturated with a tack coat during installation, the MPV fabric creates a waterproof membrane that prevents surface water from penetrating into the base and subgrade, where moisture-related damage accelerates pavement deterioration from the bottom up. At the same time, the fabric’s nonwoven structure absorbs stress at the interface between the old and new pavement layers, slowing the upward migration of existing cracks into the fresh overlay above.
